Delmar Puppy Rescue would like to give a special thanks to Pilot Alan Lieberman for his dedication in helping to save our foster dogs.  Without his generosity flying our dogs to safety Trixie would not be with us today.

Do you have a story and photo you would like to share about your DPR adopted pup or dog?  We're looking for some laughs, maybe some tears, how they have changed your life, how they have touched your heart.  We will post your photo and story on our home page to share with all of our visitors.  Maybe, just maybe, you'll inspire someone to share their life with a homeless dog.

Please send a photo and your story to:

Maggie
My name is Cindy and I am emailing you about my sweet 12 year old black lab named Maggie that I rescued from the Delaware SPCA 10 years ago. I know you wanted stories from those rescued from your organization but I felt compelled to write about my sweet girl that just passed away on April 1, 2010. We had the special privilege of having Maggie be a part of our lives for 10 special years. I always loved big dogs and I visited the shelter many times until one day I found her staring back at me. She was only 40 lbs when we got her but full of love and energy and quickly gained weight. She blended into our family like she was there from day one. The pound said she was mistreated and had a litter of pups at an early age; which is why we thought she was so overprotective of our children. She treated them like they were her kids. She was the best dog we could have ever picked out and we got her from the pound. That's the best part about it and I always loved telling people where we got her. The amount of love she showed my family from the first day we adopted her until the last was immeasurable. On her last day of life, she was still trying to please me and give to me until her last breath. I will never forget her. Adopting a dog from any shelter teaches you what real love is and appreciation. I felt appreciated every day from my dog. I felt as if she was grateful for us as much as we were for her. It hasn't even been a month yet since she has been gone, but there hasn't been a day that has gone by yet that we haven't spoken of the good times we had with her. Two weeks after Maggie died, my husband's great-grandmother passed away and she had a part schnauzer, part scottish terrier mix named Billy that needed a home, and we were asked to take her until a good home was found. I immediately felt guilty because I thought it was too soon after Maggie passed, but realized Billy just lost someone he loved too. I found your website and saw that you asked people to share their stories about their adopted pup or dog and even though I did not adopt through your organization, I felt the urge to share my adoption story. I had many dogs growing up, but the 10 years I spent with my "pound" dog were the best 10 years ever. I looked over your entire website and wish to say thank you for all the great work your organization does. LOVE IS A FOUR LEGGED WORD! Sincerely, Cindy DePrisco

Tara
Tara was a very special girl who came to the rescue back in 2005. She raised eight wonderful puppies while she was with us, and went on to make one family very happy. Though her time here was short, Tara touched all of our hearts. She has always stood out in my memory as a perfect example of just how amazing a rescued dog can be. Her loving spirit lives on in her eight wonderful children. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. This is what they had to say about Tara... Tara was a great dog who touched our hearts every day she was with us. Tara recently passed from cancer. We did all that we could for her until we felt it was time to put her down, so that she did not suffer. Tara was the sweetest and most loving dog. She was very protective and gentle with our babies and made the quality of our life amazing. As a dog she did her job the best that any dog can and that was giving her love to us. She did that exceptionally well!!!! We are in morning today as I am sure you know a family member is a tough loss to bare! Tara will live on with us in our hearts and bring joy and smiles to all of us as we continue to talk about all the incredible times in the past that we had with her. We would like to thank you for the amazing opportunity that you all gave to us for allowing this sweet girl into our lives.

Lucky
Lucky - Toy Poodle - born 1/11/92 - passed away 2/5/06 - congestive heart failure. I was loved oh so very much by my mother Carrie. I know she misses me and her heart is broken. Someday I will see her again. I am at peace now. No more problems breathing. I went so very easy. I just fell asleep and then I was with God. My mom did not have to do this for me. It was my time and I knew it. Thank you, Mom, for being so good to me. We had a lot of fun and loved each other. I am waiting for the day you will come to me so we can be together again. Love, Lucky
